2026 Campaign
Since 2025, the Global Alliance for Care has used the International Day of Care and Support to bring the many voices of care into the global conversation.
History
This is the story of an International Day that continues to be shaped by the voices, experiences, and proposals of people, organizations, movements, governments, and institutions across the world.
July 2023
On July 24, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/77/317, proclaiming October 29 as the International Day of Care and Support.
The resolution recognized the importance of investing in the care economy and advancing robust, resilient, inclusive, and human rights-based care and support systems. It also called for the recognition, reduction, valuing, and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work.
October 2023
Just a few months after its establishment, the world observed the International Day of Care and Support for the first time.
The Global Alliance for Care participated in events held in Mexico, at United Nations Headquarters, and across other regions. These first spaces brought together governments, international organizations, civil society, trade unions, experts, and advocates for the rights of people who provide and receive care and support.
The first observance opened a global conversation about care as a need, a form of work, a right, and a public good.
2024
In its second edition, the International Day took another step forward. The Alliance began bringing together and connecting the activities led by its members through a Collective Agenda.
The 2024 agenda featured 78 initiatives: 45 virtual, in-person, and hybrid events; 27 campaigns; and 6 publications. Across different regions, these actions explored the connections between care and decent work, gender equality, disability, social protection, childhood, ageing, cities, and sustainable development.
The 24-Hour Care Channel was also launched that year, providing continuous access to events, conversations, and audiovisual content produced across different regions and time zones.
2025
The third edition focused on the people and communities who experience, understand, and work to transform care.
Through #VoicesOfCare, the Alliance amplified the experiences, knowledge, and proposals of people who provide and receive care and support, as well as those working around the world to bring care into public policy, human rights, research, journalism, activism, and community action.
The mobilization included interviews, videos, podcasts, a collaborative video and photo collage, a shared social media campaign, the 24-Hour Care Channel, and a dedicated website for the International Day.
The Collective Agenda brought together 36 new initiatives: 25 events, 5 campaigns, and 6 publications.
Together, the 2024 and 2025 agendas documented more than 100 events and campaigns, as well as 12 publications led by Alliance members.
2026
In 2026, the mobilization continues to grow and create new opportunities for participation and collaboration.
Under the message “Care has many voices. Let’s make them heard,” the #VoicesOfCare campaign seeks to strengthen the presence of these voices in public conversations and help ensure that their knowledge and proposals inform the decisions affecting their lives.
Workshops, campaigns, stories, collaborative pieces, local activities, the Care Channel, the Collective Agenda, and the year-round Map of Activities connect members’ actions and those of other actors with a global conversation about transforming care.
The International Day of Care and Support is not a single event. It is a year-round mobilization that takes different forms in every community and territory.
Every event, campaign, publication, story, and proposal contributes to this shared history—a history that recognizes the voices that already exist, creates connections between them, and helps transform how care is understood, valued, and organized.
The story continues. Add your voice.
